Silent Night Fingerstyle

This is a very pretty version of Silent Night fingerstyle. To play it, you’ll want to tune your guitar to D, G, D, G, B, E. To do this you’ll only have to tune your low E and A string down a full step, so it’s not too much trouble. It’s well worth the effort!

You can listen to the full song in the audio sample below and then learn how to play each part :

Here’s the tab for the opening sequence:

Fingerings

Cool. Nothing hard here to talk about. This shouldn’t be a problem.

Now, we’ll play the same thing as before, but we’ll add the melody on top:

Fingerings

You can play the two notes on the fifth fret, however you wish, but if you used your 4th finger to barre them, odds are you can use your 1st and 2nd fingers much easier.

Fingerings

I recommend following these fingerings as best you can.

Fingerings

Only the top bar has been fingered for you because the notes repeat another bar.

Fingerings

If you can, try preparing yourself for the first two chords by actually fingering them both. Then, all you have to do is focus on hitting the correct notes. What we mean is that you are able to play the first two chords by positioning your fingers as shown below. Then, all you have to do is play the G, B, and High E strings, hit the open A string, and then play the same thing again. This time, you simply replace what you played on the High E string with what you are NOW playing on the D string.

“Silent Night”

Silent night! Holy night!
All is calm, all is bright,
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child.
Holy Infant, so tender and mild.
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night! Holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight;
Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heavenly host sing, Alleluia,
Christ, the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born!

Silent night! Holy night!
Son of God, love’s pure light,
Radiant beams from Thy holy face,
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth.
