Here’s how to play one of the most commonly used chords for the guitar. It’s the open position G chord. It uses open strings for many of its notes, so that’s why we refer to it as the open G chord. In music, it will be labeled simply as “G” or “G major”.
You’ll strum all six strings when playing the open G chord.
The G chord is formed like this:
- Place your 3rd finger on the 3rd fret of the low E string
- Place your 2nd finger on the 2nd fret of the A string
- Leave the D, G, and B strings open
- Place your 4th finger on the 3rd fret of the high E string
