Originally, .38 Special was one of many Southern rock bands in the roots of The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd; in truth, the band was led by Donnie Van Zant, the brother of Skynyrd’s leader, Ronnie Van Zant. After releasing a couple of albums of straight-forward Southern boogie, the band revamped its sound to fall halfway between country-fried blues-rock and driving, arena-ready hard rock.
Guitar 1
This guitar part is REALLY easy and needs no explanation. Just work with the timing and try to get it right for the next part. Remember to palm mute all the notes, which means you will need to rest your picking hand on the string a little to provide a muffled effect.
Guitar 2
This part isn’t hard either, but there are a few things to notice. You will be letting most notes ring, and you will be using your 1st and 2nd fingers for the parts. Don’t forget the open notes, as they are crucial in the timing of the notes for the song.
Bass
The bass part is also quite simple. You can play this on your guitar, or pick up the bass and give it a look!
